Check Presentation to Jackie Arnold Mack Walker Foundation
On Wednesday, April 29th, 2010, Gamma Iota Sigma was proud to present Jackie Arnold with a $6,000 check. The amount raised exceeded the initial goal of $5000 set at the beginning of this past academic year. This donation was an accumulation of several fundraisers, including a beef n’ beverage, a date auction, bake sales, Phillies Tickets, and weekly 50/50 raffles.

Sigma Chapter's Nineteenth Annual Dinner
The Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma held its 19th Annual Dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday, April 23rd, 2009. In addition to the more than 150 Sigma Chapter members who were in attendance, several special guests were also on hand for the event.

5th Annual Date Auction
On Wednesday, March 31st, 2008, Gamma Iota Sigma held its 5th Annual Date Auction. This event is always one of our best events, both in terms of fund-raising as well as in membership attendance. This year, we raised over $1,400, with all proceeds going to our charity of choice, The Mack-Walker Foundation. In total, 21 people were auctioned off at The Draught Horse to the highest bidder for a 30 minute date.

Greater Philadelphia Cares Meals for Haiti
On March 27th, 2010, the Sigma Chapter participated in a community service event for Greater Philadelphia Cares. The purpose of the event was to prepare meals for Haiti. After the devastating earthquake on January 12th, 2010, Haiti is still trying to get back on its feet. The group volunteered for 3 hours and helped Greater Philadelphia Cares accomplish all the planned tasks. 43 members attended.

17th Semiannual Gamma Games
On February 17th, 2010 Sigma Chapter held its Seventeenth Semi-Annual Gamma Games. The event took place on Temple University’s campus in Pearson Hall, Gym 145 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The participants each received a t-shirt and bandana and were divided randomly and equally into 8 color-coded teams.

4th Annual Beef and Beverage
The Sigma Chapter held its 4th Annual Beef and Beverage on Saturday, March 20th, 2010 at Buckhead Saloon in Philadelphia. Proceeds from the event will go to the Sigma Chapter’s charity of choice for this academic school year, the Mack-Walker Foundation.

Philadelphia Excursion
This year the Sigma Chapter held The Philadelphia Excursion. This event lasted from Friday, April 16, 2010 to Saturday, April 17, 2010. This event is held in order to bring together multiple chapters. The Sigma Chapter hosted members from Morgan State University’s Gamma Iota Sigma Chapter for a weekend in Philadelphia.

Bridging the Gap: A Strategic Competition for Tomorrow’s Leaders
On Tuesday, April 13th, 2010, Delaware Valley RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society) announced the winners of this year’s competition called “Bridging the Gap: A Strategic Competition for Tomorrow’s Leaders”. Students from Temple University, La Salle University, Drexel University, Rutgers University, and Saint Joseph’s University entered the competition.

The Department of Risk, Insurance and Healthcare Management Award and Scholarship Winners
During the 2009-2010 academic year, our Sigma Chapter students were awarded various scholarships such as: Angus Robinson Jr. Memorial Scholarships, Amerisure, Elmer Roe Deaver Foundation, Anita Benedetti Student Involvement , Chartered Property and Casaulty Underwriters, Donna Riley Webb, Spencer Educational Foundation and the Prima Conference Award.

Professional Examination Completion
For students in the Risk Management and Actuarial Science fields, passing exams given by professional societies is of critical importance to their professional development. The Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma encourages our members to take these professional exams while still in college. These rigorous exams are given by various educational organizations in the Risk Management and Actuarial Science fields, and the Sigma Chapter is proud of our members who have completed this difficult task. These include exams for the CEBS, CPCU and ARM designations, as well as actuarial exams sponsored by the Society of Actuaries.

Gamma Iota Sigma’s 1st Annual Owlympiad Math Competition
This Spring Semester, Sigma Chapter hosted its first annual Owlympiad Math competition for neighboring high school students in the Howard Gittis Student Center.
